double sided heat shrink marker sleeve is a double-sided printable heat shrink marker sleeve: the legend is printed on both faces of every sleeve. On a round cable nothing keeps a marker the right way up, and in a dense harness half the sleeves end up facing away from the reader — a double-sided sleeve is legible from either side without turning the bundle or re-marking the wire.

A double-sided heat shrink marker sleeve changes the supply format, not the material: the compound is the same halogen-free, low smoke, low hazard polyolefin used across our MTLHF marker sleeve range, so the electrical and fire performance are unchanged. What differs is the supply format: pre-cut sleeves on a perforated carrier strip, wound on a reel, printed on both faces by a 300 dpi thermal transfer printer before shrinking.

Why printed on both faces

1. A sleeve rotates, a marker should not disappear.

Once recovered on a round cable the sleeve is free to turn. Print one face of the marker sleeve and roughly half the markers in a harness are unreadable from the inspection side; print both and every sleeve reads, whichever way it settled.

2. Two data fields in the footprint of one sleeve.

Circuit or line number on one face, destination, from–to or plant tag on the other. The second field costs no extra sleeve and no extra length on the cable.

3. One reel per size and colour, not two.

A double-sided reel covers what would otherwise need separate single-sided stock for each printed face — fewer part numbers to hold, fewer reels to change.

4. Reel fed, so it prints like a label.

Pre-cut sleeves sit on a perforated carrier with sprocket holes on both edges and advance one at a time through a 300 dpi thermal transfer printer — the same machine that runs our other sleeves and tie-on tags.

Key features

  • Printed on both faces — a two-sided heat shrink wire marker that reads from either side of the cable, with no re-orientation
  • Two legends per sleeve — circuit on one face, destination or from–to on the other
  • LSZH, low smoke, low hazard — halogen-free compound for enclosed and occupied spaces
  • 3:1 covers 2.4–25.4 mm, 2:1 covers 2.4–50.8 mm — ten stocked sizes, ranges below
  • SAE AMS-DTL-23053/5 and UL224 125 °C 600 V — the same approval basis as military grade sleeves
  • Print permanence to SAE AS81531 — 50 eraser rubs, 30 strokes
  • Reel fed for 300 dpi thermal transfer — prints sleeves and tie-on tags on one machine
  • Double-sided across the range — the military grade, halogen-free and fluoropolymer sleeves we make can all be printed on both faces, not only this one

Printing

Marker sleeves are printed on the reel, before shrinking — one face, the other face, or both. A 300 dpi thermal transfer printer advances the carrier one sleeve at a time; the same machine runs our heat-shrink sleeves and tie-on tags, so one printer covers the whole identification program.

Ribbons: CT-801 black, CT-716C color series (white / red / yellow / green / blue / gold / silver), 110 mm × 300 m; IR-02 black, 30 mm × 300 m. Package includes printer, power cord and adapter, USB cable, two ribbons and one paper roll; stand and RTC module optional.

Installation

  1. Print the reel on one face, the other face, or both — printing always happens before any heat is applied.
  2. Peel one sleeve off the carrier and slide it over the cable; position the legend where it will be read.
  3. Apply heat evenly with a hot-air gun. Shrinkage begins at 80 °C; full recovery is reached at 120 °C.
  4. Stop when the wall is smooth and the legend is evenly spaced. Do not exceed 135 °C continuous.
  5. Let the sleeve cool, then check both faces — the second face is the one that saves a re-visit.

Typical applications

  • Rail vehicles, signalling and tunnel wiring
  • Shipboard, offshore and marine harnesses
  • Aircraft interiors and avionics bays
  • Control panels and switchgear with high sleeve counts
  • Prefabricated harness shops marking both circuit and destination
  • Retrofit work where the reader cannot choose which side to inspect

  • Standard colors: white, yellow. Other colors on request.
  • Sizes 2.4–50.8 mm: 3:1 for 2.4–25.4 mm, 2:1 across the full range.
  • Reels are printed to your legend — send the print file or a marked-up original.
  • Supplied manufacturer-direct; technical data sheet and print file template on request.

FAQ

Can the two faces carry different text?

Yes. On a double-sided marker sleeve you can print the same legend twice, or two related fields — circuit number on one face and destination, from–to or plant tag on the other.

Does printing both faces make the sleeve stiffer or thicker?

No. Thermal transfer lays a thin resin image on the surface; the wall thickness, shrink ratio and recovery temperature are the properties of the compound and do not change.

Will the print on one face offset onto the other on the reel?

Use a resin ribbon rather than a wax-resin ribbon. Resin images are formulated not to offset under reel pressure; tell us which printer you run and we will confirm the ribbon.

Which size for a 6 mm bundle?

Φ9.5 at 3:1 covers 3.5–8.1 mm and is the smallest sleeve that fits; Φ6.4 at 3:1 stops at 5.5 mm.

Is this the same compound as the MTLHF range?

Yes — the same halogen-free, low smoke, low hazard polyolefin. EMT is the reel-fed, double-sided format of that family; MTLHF is supplied as loose cut lengths.

Why choose double-sided over single-sided?

Readability on a rotated cable, two data fields per sleeve, and one reel instead of two. The comparison table above sets the two side by side.
